Digital Signage - Taxes and licenses

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There was much discussion and controversy lately about the taxation of digital signage displays. Many countries, especially in Europe have a license or fiscal policy for TVs.

Some of these permits were issued around began television broadcasts (in particular, the British BBC TV license) and are designed to service the public.

However, it has a lot of controversy recently with the tax systems in some countries, like Italy,Who are the devices targeting digital advertising (especially outdoor digital signage) with the tax authorities. Currently, the tax amounts to € 100 ($ 120) per screen.

The problem with this type of taxation is that it is difficult to distinguish between TV and digital signage. And the increasing use of outdoor television systems simultaneously to explore the use of digital signage has been agreed with the growth, the tax regardless of all screens.

Italian police, for example, is taskedMake sure all outdoor TV had paid the fee and how it is impossible to distinguish between many of the outdoor TV screens, digital signage and outdoor.

They also argue that while a screen can currently be used only World Cup in advertising, signs that he could easily be modified for TV during the events, for example.

In the UK, however, the rules are much more balanced. The license fee is payable only if the device canTV images received transmission - so the screen must be connected to either an antenna or a cable box for digital signage This license be installed without the need to.

However, the approval system of the United Kingdom and many other countries fairly unusual system may use the Flat Tax Italy, to accept, is primarily the demand for open space continues to grow (which will be during the event as the World Cup and Olympic-do) through an external digital signage could soon be moreexpensive.

How to Hook Up Your Computer to Your TV

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In this article, we will look at the different ways in which you can hook up your desktop, laptop, or netbook computer to your television and the reasons that you may want to do this.

Most of us have a computer at home. And, most of us have a television in our living room. For the majority of us, the television in the living room is much bigger than the monitor that we have for our computers. Many think this and ask: "Is it possible to connect my computer to my TV?"

Aside from the sheer size of your television, there are also many other reasons that people may want to connect their computers to their television sets. For example, now-a-days most people store all of their photos on their PC. Thus, what do you do if you want to show a room full of people your photos? For that matter, what do you do if you want to share your vacation videos with all of the people gathered in your living room?

You get the picture? You have a lot of data in the form of music, movies, photos, and more that would be better viewed on the LCD TV in your living room than your skimpy monitor that is attached to your computer.

So, is it possible to connect your desktop or laptop computer to your new television to accomplish all this? You bet it is and it is not that difficult. There are four ways that you can do this.

The first method is the old way and I do not recommend it. This method involves connecting an S-Video cable from your computer to your television. Old computers and older televisions often had an S-Video port on them and this was the only way to connect the two. The visual and audio output on the TV was not optimal. This inadequate solution now is not available for most people anyway as S-Videos ports are no longer a standard.

The method that will almost certainly work for everyone is a male VGA to VGA connection. The reason that this will work is that nearly all computers and all LCD TVs have this type of connection. This is the connection that I currently use and the picture is fantastic. For audio to come out of your TV or stereo, simply get a stereo mini phone jack to dual RCA jack stereo cable.

Your final two options are even better. DVI and HDMI. These are the best digital transfer mechanisms. Many people, however, have a problem with this because their computer or LCD TV does not have one of the two connections. Many computers have DVI but not HDMI. Almost all of the best LCD TVs have HDMI but sometimes not DVI.

Not to worry. If your computer has DVI but your LCD TV does not, you can buy a DVI to HDMI converter to connect your computer with your TV. You will still need to run the audio separately as DVI does not carry audio.

Your most optimal connection of all of them is HDMI to HDMI but this is only possible if both your computer and LCD TV have HDMI. Make sure that you are not be swayed by people trying to sell you an expensive HDMI cable. They can be had for around $10 so don't pay more.

In summary, connecting your desktop, laptop, or netbook computer to your LCD TV is pretty awesome because it allows you to view, and listen to, all of your computer media on your big screen or home stereo. I fully recommend it!

Samsung LCD TVs - What's New In Samsung's 2008 LCD TV Lineup?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Samsung is one of the world's most popular and respected LCD tv manufacturers. It is no wonder they are one of the best selling tvs on the market. They have reached this level of success by producing high performing tvs at a reasonable price.

So what do we have to look forward to in the new models? Samsung has taken an already good LCD tv in their LNT models and made some improvements for this model year.

The Samsung LCD tvs range from Series 3 which corresponds to the previous xx42 models, Series 4 which corresponds to the xx53 models, Series 5 corresponding to the xx61 and Series 6 corresponding to the xx71 models. They will also be adding Series 7 models.

The Series 3 and 4 models are 720p models and are available in up to 40inch models. These tvs are designed with many of the same components as the upper end models so you are still getting a good tv, even though it is more of an entry level type model. The LCDs allow easy connectivity through side ports with hot keys on the remote to allow easy access.

The Series 5 models open up the door to 1080p for a full high definition experience. They start with the 37inch models and go up to 52inches making these models a great starting point for setting up your home theater.

The Series 6 models add some significant performance upgrades and are 120HZ models. In addition these Samsung LCD tvs include ethernet connections for RSS downloads of weather, stock prices, news and sports scores. Also new in this model is the Touch of Color which adds an amber tint in the bezel for a more stylish design.

The newest Samsung LCD tvs have increased performance by increasing contrast ratio and improving on the response rate from last year's model. They have also made some improvements in the Auto Motion Plus technology for their 120Hz tvs. Of course all of the tvs are HDMI compatible and have multiple inputs for the many technologies that have begun utilizing HDMI.

It will be interesting to see what new developments come out in the coming years. This is a great time for consumers entering the flat screen HD universe or for those looking to make upgrades to their existing set up as LCDs continue to offer a bigger and better picture along with lower prices. From the look of things Samsung will continue to be a leader in the LCD tv market for years to come.

How to Calibrate Your New LCD TV

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There used to be a time when watching television meant turning it on and sitting on the couch. These days all aspects of audio visual entertainment are becoming more complex and in order to get the best out of your new TV, you often have to do a little extra. LCD TV's are no exception. When you buy one you might expect that it comes from the factory ready to view, but the fact is that you may have to spend just a little time with it to get the best picture result.

Why calibrate your LCD TV?

When you look at a TV in the showroom it is rarely set up for home use. Dealers tend to ramp up the brightness and contrast so it will jump out at you in the showroom, but this will rarely make for a convincing picture at home. Hence when you get home you may find you need to make some adjustments to the controls. These may include;

o Black Level, this is normally found on the 'Brightness' control
o White Level, which is usually called 'Contrast' or 'Picture'
o Sharpness, sometimes called 'Detail'
o Colour Saturation, which is usually labeled 'Color', or maybe even 'Chroma'
o Colour Tint, also known as 'Hue'

All of these will play a part in how convincing the picture looks in your home.
This website http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/HOMEPAGE/PC=HOME has information on standards in TV.

Calibrating your LCD TV at home

The director of your favourite film didn't intend for it to be seen at the kind of settings showrooms often have LCD TV's. The enhanced brightness and contrast may not be terribly realistic and what's more, prolonged use can be damaging to your TV's display technology, overloading pixels and diminishing its lifespan. The first thing to do is take account of the lighting conditions in the room the TV will be viewed in, and start adjusting the controls so that the picture seems more realistic.

Features such as 'picture enhancement' can usually be turned off because they don't do anything above what the five basic controls mentioned above do. If you want to take it a step further you can calibrate against a test pattern, but it may be advisable to do a bit of research first. There are many articles that detail the basics of LCD TV calibration.
Why calibrate your LCD TV?

You've spent good money on it, so naturally you are going to want the best viewing experience from your LCD TV. For a relatively small amount of effort you can adjust the picture to suit the particular viewing conditions of your own living space. It makes sense and it personalizes the viewing experience to an extent that would have been unimaginable not so long ago.

Advantages of LCD TV Over Plasma TV

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Statistics shows that 98% of American households own a television unit and spends at least 3 hours and 48 minutes of viewing time per day. Television has become a very important household necessity for many people, adults and children alike. With the increasing demand of modern technology advancement, companies try to move along with the fast paced lifestyle people are living in right now.

The television industry has evolved and become a part every household budget to make the family more convenient and entertained during family viewing time. Television manufacturers made different approach to give consumers more options in choosing the best kind of TV for the family. The birth of LCD TV and Plasma TV represents the revolutionary kind of entertainment the contemporary world is looking for. But which is more beneficial for consumers, LCD TVs or Plasma TV?

Liquid crystal display televisions or LCD TV are thinner and lighter compared to the regular CRT TV of the past. It has a better color display and high resolution advantage than most Plasma television available in the market. LCDs have a wider choice of 1080 pixel sets and more screen sizes to choose from. Unlike plasma TV which only has the smallest size of 42 inches, LCDs provide smaller sets that are more space saving and cheap. Plasma Televisions are the latest when it comes to modern TV technology but LCD TV manufacturers created more advanced and better models of LCD TV to catch up with the Plasma TV technology. Latest models of LCD TV offers a much better color display and are generally a bit brighter than most plasma TV. It has less reflective screens that look better in bright rooms.

Plasma TV tends to look dim in bright lighting when set in a standard mode, which are generally recommended for home use. It is more beneficial when used for gaming consoles because of the higher amount of panel resolution that gives a more detailed video gaming experience. LCD TV is less prone to burn-in from images that are displayed for a long period of time which has become a problem with early models of plasma TV. It provides a more stable image quality that avoids eye fatigue for those who spends long hours of TV watching. Aside from these, LCD Television has a longer life span of 50,000 hours of viewing time than Plasma TV's 30,000 hours. The best advantage of LCD TV is that it is cheaper compared to Plasma TV, making it a more recommendable choice for consumers who want their money to be all worth it. It is also known to be more energy saving than plasma sets, so you don't have to worry about your electric bill all the time.

You must always remember that it is not a matter of having the latest and most hip television out in the market. You must be able to weigh the advantage and disadvantages it might bring. It is always better to choose the ones that are of high quality, more affordable and longer lasting to make your money all worth it.

Guide to Hi-Def TV Specifications

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Want to buy a high-def TV but just don't know how to figure out the specifications to choose the best sets? Here's a short guide to some of the most common specs you'll be faced with.

Contrast ratings - a measurement of the darkest blacks to the lightest whites - Panasonic boasts of a 18000:1 contrast rating for their best plasma. In nearly every case, you'll find that plasma TVs have better contrast ratings than any other high-def TV, but you don't necessarily need off-the-charts contrast ratings to have a television you'll enjoy. An 1800:1 makes most people happy, and in a darkened room you often can't tell much difference, though it will be obvious in a showroom.

1080p and 1080i - These numbers refer to the horizontal lines that make up your television image. Traditional televisions - and traditional TV broadcasts - have a 480i; most modern high-def TVs have 1080 or better. The p and i refer to the method the television uses to interpret these lines. An i is an interlaced picture, where every other line refreshes, usually every 1/60 of a second. A p displays all the lines at once, and refreshes either every 1/60 or 1/30 of a second. Look for sets that have a high number and the p for best pictures. Also, for best results look for Blu-ray sets that match this number for your television; some televisions designed for interlaced images cannot handle a Blu-ray set only for p.

Scaling - Refers to the ideal resolution for your television's picture. This is more important for a front-projection DLP TV than any other set, as it determines the maximum and minimum picture for good viewing.

Artifacts - Auras, ghost images, sharp edges, and other distracting things that can detract from your high-def TV's good image processing. A television reviewed as having few or no artifacts is always better than one that has some complaints.

De-judder processing - this refers to the sometimes-jerky motion when frames change too slowly. Because high-def TVs are in essence computing devices, this depends heavily on internal processor speed as well as good programming at the factory. Some experts complain that certain sets do too good a job at de-juddering, and as a result the image is unnaturally smooth in motion. Most consumers are happier with this sort of set, though, so the better your de-judder is the happier you will probably be.

Resolution - Most sets have at least 1920 x 1080 resolution, referencing the vertical x horizontal lines your set will display. High resolutions indicate better pictures, provided everything else works well.

Color-temperature presets -- With values like Cool1 and Neutral, these presets skew your television's color settings toward blues or reds. These settings are not necessarily a make-or-break thing for your high-def TV, but it's nice to be able to skew your picture without fiddling with every color setting. Most high-def TVs have many other color settings you can mess around with, but none of them are critical.

There are several other specs, with more being created every day, but these should help you choose a great high def TV for your needs.

Plasma TV and LCD TV: Televisions of the Future

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Although both Plasma TV's and LCD TV's display a big picture in a thin case, there are many notable differences between the two devices.

The plasma television sets are larger than LCD's and measure about 42 inches. The size of the LCD is approximately 37 inches. But a 42-inch LCD TV would cost $1000 more than the plasma television set. The LCD TV's weigh lesser than the plasma set. The plasma television sets are bulky and therefore they constantly require installation. They are well structured in order to prevent overheating due to constant usage by a means of proper ventilation.

The plasma televisions exhibit a contrast background and therefore are very appropriate for watching movies as you experience the enjoyment of a home theatre. LCD TV's are mostly bright screened and appropriate if your room is brightly lit. The plasma TV's do not appear lucid when the room is brightly lit. At the same time, the LCD TV's seem to emit strong rays when the room is darker.

You can watch your television from different angles when you are watching the plasma TV. The same convenience is not available in case of LCD as it bears a flat screen. As you move further we can feel the loss of brightness.

But there are a few disadvantages when you own a plasma television set. When it is linked to video, it often tends to leave an image for a long time. These images often get permanently etched on the screen. At the bottom of the screen, the text or the logos of the other networks are often seen and it causes a disturbance to the viewer. The estimated life of a plasma TV is around 25000 to 35000 hours.

According to Alfred Poor's anticipations, the LCD television will continue to be an expensive set compared to the other televisions.

Televisions That We Can All Afford

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It's quite intimidating nowadays to go shopping for a new television. There are so many brands and models to choose from. The used to be simple task of purchasing a television is now quite daunting. Since most people don't have to purchase a television very often, it can be quite difficult to get caught up in the latest technology. To get started, you need to decide if you want to purchase a regular tube television, a flat screen television, or perhaps even a projection television. Once you have made this decision, the rest of your choices should fall into place.

Most projection televisions are big screen televisions, if that is what you are looking for. If you choose to buy the projection television, you are looking at spending quite a lot of money for one of those. One place that you could start looking for a projection television is on some rent to own web sites. If you choose to go down the rent to own path, you won't have to pay the huge purchase price up front. Rather, you will make scheduled payments which are much easier on your pocketbook. Also, with rent to own, you will not have to worry about acquiring any long term debt obligations.

There are two different types of flat panel screen televisions: LCD and plasma. Generally with the plasma screens, you are able to see the television from all angles. Whether you are sitting directly under the television or sitting on a sofa clear on the side of the room, you will still have a clear picture. However, the plasma screens are glass and they tend to reflect the lighting that you have surrounding your television. With the LCD screens, there are some extreme angles from which it is harder to see the picture on the television. The LCD television screens have a matte finish, so the lighting in the room won't be reflected to obstruct your television viewing. Again, these televisions can also be somewhat pricey. You could check out a rent to own calendar to determine if there might be an event in your area from which you could purchase one of these televisions.

Last, but not least, we have the regular tube televisions. These are by far the least expensive of all the televisions. These televisions are less expensive, but definitely take up much more room due their bulkiness. If you choose to purchase a tube television, odds are you won't have to worry about dealing with any rent to own terms. Most likely you will simply be able to pay for the entire purchase price upfront. But no matter what type of television you decide to purchase, chances are you will be pleased with your selection for many years to come.

What Can the iPad Be Useful For?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

With the new announcement from Apple, the iPad is finally here. Consumers can now purchase Apple's tablet computer. At it's less than 10" screen, what can a device like this be used for.

First of all, all your iPhone applications will work on this device. If you have paid applications, they will cross over for free as well. Anything you do on your iPhone, besides making calls, can be done on this device.

For a monthly fee, one can get a data access plan for this device. This means that it can be a portable internet device that one can carry around always having online access. For many the screen is large enough that one can see the web as it is designed to see without being stuck to the mobile version sized pages.

It's large enough to watch television shows and movies comfortably. Loaded up with purchases from iTunes it's a small portable movie player. The larger size will make it a bit more comfortable than watching on the small iPod screens.

One big appeal of this device will be as an ebook reader. There are electronic ink devices like the Kindle and the Nook that many enjoy. The iPad can be used a reader although it's not electronic ink but a normal screen display. It depends on person preference. With 10 hours of battery life this is more than enough to make it through the day reading for most people.

Surely there will be more uses as developers come up with unique, new ideas for this device, but presently it seems to be fairly full featured for what it's designed to do. While there isn't a device like this yet, there are many common functions that many people use that could be used on this device.

LCD Vs Plasma TVs - Which is Better?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

HDTVs are the new standard when it comes time to buying a new TV. However, when it comes time to buy you will need to decide between buying a LCD vs Plasma TV. This article will help you understand the difference between the two and which is better suited for your home.

Let's get technical. Plasma screen TVs use a matrix of tiny gas plasma cells which are charged by electrical voltage in order to make the picture. LCD screens are made up of liquid crystals sandwiched together between two glass plates. Now let's put that it terms that the average consumer can understand.

Both LCD and Plasma TVs produce an excellent picture. However, plasma screens are usually suggested for the average viewer because they can produce blacks more accurately due to the nature of how they work. Plasma HDTVs also typically have better viewing angles so you can sit at angles and still view a clear image on the screen. Lastly, plasma TVs are, in most cases, less expensive than LCD TVs.

LCD televisions do have their advantages over Plasma screens also. LCD screens usually have more pixels on the screen which give them a higher native resolution. They also have a longer lifespan as compared to plasma screens and are guaranteed for 60,000 hours. Finally, LCD screens are rarely victims of screen burn which results from leaving an image on too long on the TV. Plasma TVs are more commonly susceptible to this problem.

So which is right for you? If you plan on buyer a small television that is 42' or less, then we would suggest you go with a LCD. However, if you plan to go bigger than that then you best buy will be Plasma HDTV as it will give you a better price and picture quality. Secondly, if you are going to be putting the TV in a dark room with little glare then you should go with a Plasma screen TV, but if the room is bright and subject to glares then a LCD screen TV will perform better.

Hopefully you now have a better understanding of the Plasma TV vs LCD TV debate and you are armed with the knowledge you need to make a wise and educated purchase.

What You Must Know About the Best LCD TV Comparison

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Ideally, the best LCD TV comparison should help you navigate through all the confusion surrounding buying an LCD television. It only seems like there's a lot to know. LCD flat screen TV's haven't been around for that long, so unless you've bought one before, you don't know what the issues are. This article is going to help you understand what you need to know in order to intelligently buy your next LCD flat screen TV. Hopefully, this will be the best LCD TV comparison you've read in 400 words or less.

There are a few things you have to think about when buying an LCD TV. If this is going to be the best LCD TV comparison in 400 words, I've got to mention plasma TV's. If you're already made the decision to buy an LCD TV over a plasma TV, then great. If you're still wrestling with that decision, let me put your mind at ease. It used to be that plasma had a better picture than LCD. But no longer! Technology has advanced so far that LCD TV's are now seen to be as good as plasmas. Also, LCD TV's are much lighter than plasma TV's. So, they're much easier to mount on the wall.

Next, you need to think about price and size, which are essentially the same thing. It's tempting to get as big a TV as you can afford, but you've got to factor in the room size. For instance, a 50-inch television would be out of place in most bedrooms. And a smaller 32-inch TV might get lost in a great room.

Obviously price is a consideration as well. Even in the best LCD TV comparison under 400 words in length I can't quote specific prices because those change so rapidly. However, you can get a very nice 32-inch TV for $600 to $800. The larger TV's are going to run you a few thousand.

Another consideration I need to mention in the best LCD TV comparison is resolution. There are basically three resolutions, but only two of them are considered high-definition, 720 and 1080p. The numbers refer to the number of lines across the screen, the p refers to the way the picture is interlaced. 1080p is currently the highest resolution. Most signals are not even that high. But don't think you have to spend the extra $200 to $300 to get 1080p. For smaller sets, 720 looks just as good. It's only when you get into the really large sets that you can tell much of a difference.

Increase Your Viewing Pleasure With an LCD Plasma Television

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you have been shopping for televisions or just keep up with technology, then you have heard about the LCD plasma television, but do you truly know anything about it? The concept of a plasma screen has been around since the mid-1960s with scientists in a college computer lab creating a very rudimentary model for the display of computer information.

Although originally designed in 21-inch televisions, plasma televisions showed many advantages over the then-popular projection screen televisions, including brighter pictures with very little distortion when viewed from the side. The popularity of plasma televisions quickly grew along with the screen size and during their first years on the market dominated the over-40-inch monitor business. Plasma technology could be designed easily for screens 37-inches and larger and the market was rocked with the introduction of a 103-inch screen in 2006.

Without a big and bulky tube inside of it, the LCD plasma television is typically less than 50 pounds, depending on the size that you purchase. Because it is so light, you can even mount it on the wall which frees up shelf or floor space. However, you must make sure that you mount the plasma television on a wall stud for the strongest anchor. The plasma television offers cinema-like quality with its widescreen ratio, an aspect of 16-9, but it is also adept at displaying smaller ratios too. In facts, many of the plasma televisions have an automatic picture resizer which will zoom in and out depending on the aspect ratio of the picture quality.

The flat screen of a plasma television is great in that it greatly reduces distortion of the image displayed, something that was a problem with CRT screens. You have a wide viewing angle without the picture becoming distorted and the screen has a remarkable, even brightness in the picture quality.

Another advantage of high definition plasma televisions, is they are already set up for digital images as well as sound, making them ideal for use with surround sound systems. The 13:9 aspect ratio of plasma televisions also allow for a better theater-like experience for in-home viewing of movies. Plasma monitors also have a better dark room black level that makes black appear real black instead of a dark red or brown found with many LCD televisions.

LCD TV? 1080p? How to Pick LCD HDTV Set - Secrets They Don't Want You to Know

Image : http://www.flickr.com

What about a good reason to get a 1080p LCD TV ?

First of all, what IS a 1080p panel? The panel or screen display is what you are watching and it is built up of pixels or PICture ELements. Or, PIX. ELS. That is where the name comes from.

OK here's the thing, the pixel count determines whether it can display a 1080p picture in native mode inside LCD tvs.
Why? The 1080p panel has a fixed pixel number of 2,073,000 pixels and can only display in that format, so everything that doesn't fit the panel must be processed or expanded to fit.

This is how any LCD TV or any digital flat panel tv, like Plasma HDTV, with a fixed number of pixels works.

A 1080i (With lines) picture is fed to the processor inside the TV, and becomes 1080p (No lines), simply by adding the lines together. This is called Upconverting or upscaling, or expanding the video signal.
What a computer does with all types of files, it can "Zip" and "Unzip" them. Except when video files are zipped, or Downconverted, they don't appear to lose quality. But when they are unzipped, or Upconverted, they may appear to lose a LOT.
This is because the imperfections of a lower resolution signal are expanded along with the good stuff. On the other hand, the apparent quality of a DVD is improved by removing the lines, a major improvement for any signal. Remember here, we are talking about streaming video files, to borrow a computer term.

A Real 1080p picture or signal can only come from a Blu-Ray disc player or a PS3, or an Upconverting DVD player, at the moment, but more options will become available as new technologies are created. And it looks great on a 1080p panel.

The signal is displayed just as it comes from the player at 1080p, via a HDMI cable, and this is the easiest to use cable option currently for 1080p connection.
Any other signal like Free To Air Broadcasts which are either 720p (No Lines) or 1080i (Lines) will be upconverted or kind of "Unzipped" in the built in video processing hardware inside the HDTV set, to 1080p.
Naturally the quality of LCD panel and the quality of video hardware will mean the best results. See "10 Bit" below.

This leads to a special case of cheaper sets being sold with lcd flat panel types which have an 8 bit or 6 bit panel and corresponding processing hardware. Now when these sets have a 6 or 8 bit panel, for very involved reasons, you can almost bet that it will be a fast panel. Simply because the math that the circuitry needs to perform on the video signal is easier, and faster, so takes less time. These are usually smaller screen sizes usually less than 26", and it is also possible that it is a panel originally designed for computer display.

Which explains the weird screen resolutions like 1440, 1280, etc in advertisements. Avoid these types of screens unless you are using it for a PC. Although some look good with a PC, and bad with TV, some are bad with both. Meaning cheaper, no name brands.
On the other hand, 10 bit panels can be made as fast using new technology, and they will have to be much higher quality, because generally they are made only by a few well known manufacturers.
Only a select group of manufacturers actually make their own glass for lcd flat panels.
How To Pick An LCD TV that contains a cheap panel? A sure fire method is:
Stand close to the screen and either look down at the screen, or look up at the screen from below.
If the picture changes color or becomes negative, bingo. Don't buy it.

10 bit lcd flat panels are more than fast enough to handle the display of 1080p video signals and 10 bit video processing is also much higher quality, better for movies etc.

That being said, surprisingly one of the best panels to get if you are a sports nut is 720p. It is also cheaper then 1080p. Video displayed on this type of panel is lower detail but better for high speed motion. This lower detail is not really noticeable unless you get a very big screen. Especially if you go for very large screen sizes, like 50", or larger, it will be very obvious that is 720p.
Any benefit of 720p will be canceled out with a LCD TV 1080p display with 120hz refresh. This technology is becoming very common now. It means that any benefits of 720p, namely for sports etc, are negated. We'll leave that subject for a later discussion.

The take home message from all of this is, 1080p is the display of choice for people who want to take advantage of HDTV to the maximum. But You must stick with known name brands when selecting the best lcd tv from the wide range of models with 1080p panels. That way, you ensure that you get at least a 10 bit panel and at minimum 10 bit video processing.

As an example, many LCD HDTV sets use 14 bit video processing and 10 Bit 1080p panels in their range.
A high quality LCD TV 1080p will reproduce TRUE HDTV, this will ensure you get an LCD TV contrast ratio that is at the highest level, and brightness levels and color gradations are the best possible and therefore ensuring quality picture reproduction.

LCD Televisions - Advantages and Disadvantages

Image : http://www.flickr.com

LCD televisions are television sets that use LCD technology, just like in the computer LCD monitors, tuned up for video and television display. Many features of LCD Television rendered it more practical than CRT TVs and thus LCD TVs began to gain instant popularity among the consumers.

LCD televisions are referred to as "transmissive display", because light is not emitted by the liquid crystals themselves. A light source behind the panels emits light that gets redirected by a white panel to the rear of LCD, which distributes the light evenly to generate uniform image. This is the basic principle behind the working of LCD televisions.

The LCD tv display has a liquid crystal solution sandwiched between two polarizing transparent crystals. In order to form a template for the liquid crystal, the front layer glass of the display is etched on the inside in a grid pattern. These crystals bend light in response to an electric current and each crystal behaves like a shutter either allowing light to pass through or blocking it. So a pattern of dark and transparent crystal are formed that generates the image.

LCD televisions have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. The LCD TVs do not have a rapid pixel response time and thus in cases of fast moving objects exhibit motion lag. Improvements have been made to overcome this defect, however this works only if your screen size is lesser than 35 inch. The bigger the screen gets, fast action videos create more of ghosting effect and they video becomes highly indistinct. Since LCD TVs use LCD panels, many LCD televisions do not have the capacity to go fully black, rather blacks appear to be darker gray.

LCD TVs are also quite expensive compared to their CRT counterparts. Especially when it comes to sizes over 35 inch and the ones with a 16:9 aspect ratio are very expensive. However with continuous research and improvement, the manufacturing price of the LCD televisions fell and eventually LCD TVs began to dominate the market.

Though LCD TVs suffer quite a few drawbacks, there are more advantages that cancels out the few imperfections. The major and obvious advantage is that LCD televisions are easier to watch. LCDs offer more brightness and contrast than CRT televisions and perform well under almost every light atmosphere. Even under bright light ambiance, the images of the display do not appear washed out. Also, the display does not suffer glare due to surrounding lights. Since most flat screen LCD television displays can have a viewing angle of 160 degrees, the video will look agreeable from anywhere under 80 degrees on both sides.

Unlike plasma televisions, you will not have to worry about image burn-in, ideal for gaming usage. This is because colors are created using filters and the display screen is not coated with phosphor dots. Also LCD televisions are multifunctional; you can use them either as an HDTV player, home video player or as a monitor for your PC.

The screen size of LCDs range typically from 13 - 65 inches and there are brands that manufacturer displays up to 100 inches. The slim profile television is also economical in the sense that it does not require much maintenance.

Samsung - The Best LED TV on the Market For Many Reasons

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Samsung is presently producing the best led tv line of any manufacturer. If you're about to purchase a new HDTV, look at Samsung before you spend your money!

Just when you thought HDTV could not get any better, Samsung has taken it further, much further. By taking a very old technology, the LED (light-emitting diode), and the many advances that have been made in the field, Samsung has been releasing the best LED TV on the market.

Whether it be in the LED LCD HDTV line or the new Samsung LED DLP HDTV line, these new televisions are producing images that are simply stunning. With contrasts ratios of 500,000:1 being offered in current LCD devices, as well as blur-free imaging, these LCD HDTVs aren't what you're used to seeing. With much brighter, more vibrant colors as well words really can't do the images justice, they truly must be seen to be believed.

Not only has Samsung worked their magic in the Samsung LED LCD TV line, but they have also advanced the LED DLP TV sets in leaps and bounds.

DLP is Texas Instrument's amazing chip that houses millions of microscopic mirrors that can switch states at incredible speeds, offering the best images in projection television (and commercial applications as well) that have ever been seen. That, of course, was until Samsung decided to set the bar even higher.

The older versions of the DLP system used a high power arc lamp as the light source for the DLP system. There was also a spinning color wheel used in those original devices. What Samsung has done with their new line of LED DLP TV technology is to take the best of the old and improve on it greatly.

Instead of using the arc lamp, which is costly to operate (and replace every few years) they use their own LED light source. They've also eliminated the spinning (whining) color wheel, which is one less item to break or wear out. This isn't about changing for the sake of changing though, these changes have resulted in HDTVs that have up to a 40% brighter image, with such brilliant color capability that many high definition sources can't even fully take advantage of the increased color gamut, as of yet anyway.

Of course without the high powered lamp to power on, the Samsung LED DLP TV also has near ly instantaneous startup. Add to that a much lower operating cost by not powering the arc lamp, and the savings that will be realized when you don't have to replace the lamps, and these devices are attractive in so many ways...even including the surprisingly low cost.

Although it's still possible to get a comparable image on the highest priced plasma sets, why pay several times more to do it ? Especially when the plasma tubes have a relatively short life and are on their way to the old technology heap in a very fast way.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Camera - Care and Damage Prevention

Image : http://www.flickr.com

A summary based on 1000's of cameras of all brands I have seen and repaired. The weak spots of the camera:

LCD display - Glass! Easily broken, when knocked or pressure applied!
• Media compartment

1. CF Card - long pins inside the camera need to access contacts inside the little holes of the card. Even tough the card has groves along the side, which act as guide rails, I have seen cameras with damaged card slots. Pins easily break off or bend, when not careful during seating or extraction of the card.
2. Tape mechanism - very delicate and flimsy - do not apply any pressure, when loading or removing the tape! Keep it clean and shut, when not used.
3. Disc mechanism - not too bad, just watch discs for fingerprints and scratches, of course.
4. Extendable lens - jammed lens sections due to dirt, sand and impact. So keep it clean, free of dirt and sand at any time. Make sure the lens is inside, when the camera is not used!

Self induced faults: Liquid, Sand and shock damage make up about 70% of all repairs

Water and liquid damage
There are three things to look out for, when the camcorder comes in contact with a liquid.

a. Most liquids are conductive and short out circuitry inside the camcorder.
b. Corrosion occurs, when the liquid reacts with the copper tracks or other components on the

circuit board and mechanism. Seawater is one of the worst liquids, as it reacts with most of the

components inside the camera.
c. In the mechanism the tape gets stuck on the metal parts, such as video head drum and prevents it

from spinning. Most liquids leave a residue, which malfunction the recorder mechanism.
What to do, to minimize the damage

Liquid damage
No matter how badly the camera is affected by the liquid, the first thing you should do, is to disconnect the battery or power source, to prevent any shorting of the circuitry. Once the camera has been dried, try to eject the tape or other media and use a different one for testing. If this does not help or your camera has been immersed in water, bring it to a repairer as soon as possible to prevent any corrosion.

Sand damage
Any sand or dirt damage, the first thing you should do is to disconnect the battery or power source. Secondly, clean the camera thoroughly with a small dry brush and cloth. Now reconnect the battery, press eject and remove the tape or other media. Leave the cassette compartment open and remove the battery. When you see sand grains inside the media compartment, just blow it out with compressed air. Try to avoid touching any components, as they can be very delicate, particularly in a tape mechanism. If this procedure was not successful, the camera needs to be booked in with a repairer.

Shock damage
The only thing you can do in this case is to reset the camera by disconnecting the battery or power source for a few seconds and then connecting it again. Try to remove the cassette and then reload again. If unsuccessful, see a repairer.

Damage Prevention - this applies to all cameras

Very important - have your camera bag sand free and clean from the inside. Do not store any liquids like water bottles etc. in your camera bag, just in case.

•Use a padded bag from all 6 sides
•Transport and store camera without accessories attached. Keep camera in a separate compartment, away from other things. This way the camera is less bulky, lighter and therefore less prone to damage.
•Lens filter for protection - most lenses are none serviceable items and need to be replaced as a complete unit.
• Take your time during loading and unloading of the cassette, disc or memory card. Do not be rushed and apply any force during this procedure. Get into the habit of closing the cassette compartment where it says 'push' on the door.
•Keep the camera in plastic zipper bag inside your padded camera bag, to prevent any sand damage on the beach, or from water/rain damage etc.

These sites are user-friendly, and you can easily browse through and select the items you may need. These items range from the simple flip chart, to overhead projectors as well as the more complex LCD/DLP projectors.

Some business companies are yet comfortable using the olden day's equipment - and these are yet freely available. However, with the advancement of technology there is a wide range of the latest models as well. These websites offer very competitive prices and a personalised service. You can always expect them to help you in choosing the most appropriate equipment depending on your presentation.

Given below is a list of some of the basic Audio Visual Presentation Equipment and its details:

LCD Projectors

There is a range of them with a wide choice of specifications. You can choose a projector based on the capacity of lighting that you will require, the clearness of the image, resolution, zooming power and so much more. The rental charge will depend on the quality and brand of the projector.

Overhead Projectors

An overhead projector is very basic but is one of the most reliable projectors which are widely used today. This projector displays an image to a much larger proportion onto a screen or onto any white surface, making it possible for the audience to view even from a distance. AV Trolleys

AV Trolleys are required for overhead projectors, television and any other equipment.

Other Presentation Equipment

These include microphones, CD Radio Cassette players, remote controls, pointers, conference kits and much more.

Computer Based Displays

Computer based displays are also commonly used for audio visual presentations. These can be on the laptop and presented via data projectors. Computer-based presentations are more professional and modern. They are more modern and advanced than the slides that were used in the past; making a smooth transition. These visuals can be enhanced with the use of sounds and videos.

Designing Visuals

Good designs will give you good brand image and help get your marketing message across effectively. The preparation of audio visuals can be handed out to a professional, if you are facing time constraints. Design agencies are very competent in carrying out these types of jobs. A professional will always know how best to design your visual and it is best that they are kept simple and uncluttered.

Today the world expects more visual than audio. Many decades ago visual equipment were not very well known. Television, computers, films now play a vital role in every person's daily lives.

Eco-Friendly Fashion - Finding Alternatives To Leather, Suede And Fur

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Although there are many designers who insist on exploiting animals in the name of fashion; there is a growing trend of buying Eco-friendly products. Looking at the latest fashion magazines, there are beautiful models clad in clothes made out of fur, leather, and suede. All the latest must have accessories are all made of animal materials. (Hermes Ostrich Birken bag anyone?) It seems that these items have somehow become a status symbol that screams high fashion.

What's a girl to do?

I admit it's irresistible at times to resist and I do cave in to my fashion needs. But is it possible that we could become more sensitive to the fact that many animals are killed for such materials? Are there alternatives?

Some designers such as Stella McCartney have take a step to introduce Eco-friendly wear for the elite. However, not everyone can afford Stella. So what about those who are budget conscious. Could we still be fashionable and at the same time be ecologically minded. Yes, we can. Companies are now realizing that many consumers are driven in searching for Eco-friendly products.

According to Lucky Magazine,

"It seems as if everyone and everything now a days is trying to be green and Eco-friendly. From Eco-friendly cosmetics to Eco-chic organic fabrics -- to be in style you must be Eco. .... Eco-chic" is the new buzzword when it comes to fashion. Mainstream companies are rolling out organic-fabric clothes and beauty companies are doing anything they can to compensate for it."

Here are some companies that provide Eco-friendly fashion wear.

Bourgeois Boheme: their motto is fashion with compassion. They have a range of natural & organic products & quality non-leather accessories. Their shoes and bags are incredibly chic. The company is based in the U.K but they do ship internationally.

NY Artificial: another great fashion forward company that also uses natural or recycled materials. Based in New York City, they have a store in trendy Chelsea and Meat Packing District. They also have an online store where you can purchase their products. Their bags are divine. (the Leila bag pictured above)

Moo Shoes: vegan-owned business that sells an assortment of cruelty-free footwear, bags, t-shirts, wallets, books and other accessories. MooShoes insists that one cannot have fashion
without compassion. Their products seem to lean more on the crunchy granola types. Perfect for running to yoga studio in. But still very fashionable and affordable. They have a store in New York City.

I think it's amazing that we as a society are becoming more socially conscious and starting to become aware that the planet does not belong solely to us. And the animal furs, leather, and skin do not also belong to us. I hope that this article shows you that there are alternatives. And that you can be fashionable and green.

Meet Fisher Price's Line of Portable High Chairs

Image : http://www.flickr.com

When you think of high chairs, you need of messy meals times and hard to clean chairs, right? Well, I have to admit that we wanted something different and Fisher Price's portable High chair was exactly what we were looking for. If you are looking for a small, space saving, easy to clean, portable and user friendly high chair for babies and toddler, well look no further. Welcome to Fisher Price's portable high chair the kind that wasn't around when we were teeny tots.

It is a true space saver since regular high chairs take the space of an extra hair. Its two highly durable clasps are attached to easy to adjust long enough straps which fit under and around any chair. This provides extra safety. Plus, the front straps keep baby secured and can be adjusted for even the most figedy baby or strong willed toddler during mealtimes.

I have taken it almost everywhere from restaurants whose baby or toddler friendly seats are either too low, not sturdy or do not have the click on table attachment which gives a toddler especially his own eating space to make his or her mess.

It has been a godsend for in-between flights when I took my twenty five month old toddler to coffee shops and found that there were no high chairs and wonder what my strong willed toddle would do sitting on a swivel arm chair or a chair without a back.

What I especially like about it is the easy to store feature. Since it only takes the space of another chair, it can be stored in almost any way. There are also no small or hidden parts. The table clicks on and off and there is a sliding try for holding a sippy cup as well as a green plastic top to cover the table attachment when it is not in use. It also provides support for an eight month old baby who is just learning the feel of his or her own chair as well as for the toddler who is well into his or her third year. Don't let the small size fool you!

There are no small crevices or tiny areas that pocket food. Like all of Fisher price products, it is made of heavy duty plastic. There are no holes or openings to keep a parent in an anxiety attack how she or he will clean after the baby.

For only twenty five dollars, this portable high chair gives peace of mind as Fisher Price products has given my family for years past and will continue for years to come!

Plasma Compared To DLP Television and LCD

Image : http://www.flickr.com

When you think of comparing plasma to DLP technology you should really compare the main aspect and that is the picture quality. The contrast by definition is the measurement of black depending of the white amount. The plasma is a step ahead this time. The boast of this in the plasma technology is truly remarkable and it's possible to heard about ratios like 4000 to 1. But not all the manufactures can accomplish this level of quality and the main ration is only 1000 to 1. The DLP is a relative new technology on the market so it's not really fair to compare with plasma but some of the big manufacturers came close to the standard ration 1000:1.

The clarity is measured by the amount of lines and by looking at the clean edge around the picture. So again is hard to compare DLP television to plasma on this topic because both technologies have great reviews regarding the clarity. The plasma achieves this by conversion and processing and the DLP have made this possible using the best clean mirror technology.

The brightness makes the DLP set to take a step ahead the competition. The viewing angle in DLP is big. The final product has really no component that can burn, perhaps only the easily replaceable lamp. The advantage plasma may have at this chapter is the fact that the brightness doesn't affect the colour richness but this affects most of the DLP TVs.

Both technologies are incredible and the difference between the two is equal in the final product. Both have a little advantage in some areas and some disadvantages. In the end it's up to you and of course the price will affect your decision a lot. For the same visual result the technology in LCD and plasma is very different. Don't let yourself be deceived with the fact that both are flat and thin because there are lots of differences between LCD and plasma televisions.

The Plasma TV is outclassing the LCD with the size of the display and a better contrast! When in comes to price plasma wins by far in this competition so this could be a decisive factor. On the other hand the LCD has its own advantages when compared with Plasma. The brightest is increased to LCD. The main advantage is the big life span of such sets and the fact that the light source can be replaced with ease. An interesting think could be that LCD doesn't have any problems with high-altitudes and the running temperature is smaller.

At last if you want to get technical then we should talk about the making technology. The Plasma is based on the light bulb and the display consists of cells. But all in one this has the same disadvantages as the traditional televisions (heat and screen burn). The LCD making technology is far different. The LCD are made of two layers polarized and glued together so the big advantage could be the less power is consuming and the lack of radiation around it ; all this because there are no phosphors that light up.

Lyle & Scott Polo Shirts

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Lyle & Scott was founded in 1874 in the small Scottish village of Hawick. The company was founded by William Lyle and Walker Scott and initially began to produce quality underwear. Within a few years the company had experienced massive growth and was extremely successful in the early years.

By 1926 Lyle & Scott had detected a change and gap in the market and switched to start producing quality outerwear such as jumpers and pullovers for the golf industry. By the 1930’s Lyle & Scott had gained a reputation for quality style and the business continued its rapid growth.

In the late 1930’s Lyle & Scott started their underwear business again and signed a franchisee deal to produce Y-front underpants to the USA and Europe. The demand for Y-fronts was huge and again the company continued to be successful.

In 1967, Lyle & Scott designed the now world famous golden eagle logo which was supposed to be a symbol of Scotland and have connections with golf. The 1968 Golf Championship was a landmark for the company as this was the first major tournament where the Lyle & Scott range was worn and the start of the domination of the golf apparel industry.

Since the early seventies the Lyle & Scott was lost to the fashion world until early 2002 when Lyle & Scott introduced a new brand identity to target the designer market. Since then Lyle and Scott has grown into one of the biggest brands in the designer market. If proof was needed, Lyle & Scott polo shirts [http://www.neatdesignerclothing.co.uk/lylescott-c-68.html] were so popular they even outsold Lacoste polo shirts [http://www.neatdesignerclothing.co.uk/lacoste-c-63.html] in early 2007.

Repair LCD Power Supply The Easy Way

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Troubleshooting LCD monitor power supply pack is easier than the crt monitor power supply. It is small and compact and usually has only one output which is 12 volt and range from 2 ampere to over 4 ampere. Some designed have 18 and 24 volts also. Nowadays most LCD power supplies are build into the main board such as the Dell E151FP LCD Monitor while the older type were separated as power pack module.

The power pack module type is easy to diagnose because you can replace another working unit just to make sure is the power pack that giving problem. You may also use an external dc power supply to power up the LCD to confirm if the power pack is faulty. If you do not have the external dc power supply, you can always use this method to isolate the problem especially the symptoms are no power, low power and power blink. Using the rear light bulb (12 volt) from a car and connect it to the power pack output jack. If it light brightly then the power pack is okay. If it blink or dim the power pack have problem. Why have to use this method to test it? Because, if there are components shorted or leaky at the LCD main board, it will affect the power supply performance.

From experienced, most of the LCD power supply problems whether in the power pack or built into main board were due to the failure of electrolytic capacitors (most probably due to heat) in the primary and secondary section. Most of the capacitors have a high ESR which causes the power supply to produce low output, blink or no power at all. Typical value electrolytic capacitors in the primary side are 47 and 100 micro farad 50 Volt and the secondary sides are 1000 to 2200 micro farad 25 volt. Sometimes you can see the capacitor top casing became bulge and the sleeve that covered the capacitor casing turned into darker color like brownish.

The power section in some of the LCD screen are still using the UC3842 pulse width modulation (pwm) ic. This type of ic is quite easy to find in the market compare to some power ic which is very difficult to get. Samsung 153V LCD monitor is using the TOP247F power ic which is quite easy to troubleshoot if power fail in this model. Some power pack that came in only have minor burnt and after cleaning it and replaced the fuse, it will work as good as the new one.

Troubleshooting LCD power supply is not that difficult provided if you know how a power supply work. If you are unsure of how to troubleshoot power supply, I urge you to read all my power supply articles at the power supply page. I will continue to post more power supplies articles at that page and hope you could drop by more often to check out my website.
