Digital Signage - Taxes and licenses

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There was much discussion and controversy lately about the taxation of digital signage displays. Many countries, especially in Europe have a license or fiscal policy for TVs.

Some of these permits were issued around began television broadcasts (in particular, the British BBC TV license) and are designed to service the public.

However, it has a lot of controversy recently with the tax systems in some countries, like Italy,Who are the devices targeting digital advertising (especially outdoor digital signage) with the tax authorities. Currently, the tax amounts to € 100 ($ 120) per screen.

The problem with this type of taxation is that it is difficult to distinguish between TV and digital signage. And the increasing use of outdoor television systems simultaneously to explore the use of digital signage has been agreed with the growth, the tax regardless of all screens.

Italian police, for example, is taskedMake sure all outdoor TV had paid the fee and how it is impossible to distinguish between many of the outdoor TV screens, digital signage and outdoor.

They also argue that while a screen can currently be used only World Cup in advertising, signs that he could easily be modified for TV during the events, for example.

In the UK, however, the rules are much more balanced. The license fee is payable only if the device canTV images received transmission - so the screen must be connected to either an antenna or a cable box for digital signage This license be installed without the need to.

However, the approval system of the United Kingdom and many other countries fairly unusual system may use the Flat Tax Italy, to accept, is primarily the demand for open space continues to grow (which will be during the event as the World Cup and Olympic-do) through an external digital signage could soon be moreexpensive.

LCD Digital Poster For Indoor Digital Signage

Image : http://www.flickr.com

An LCD digital poster is the most affordable way to enter the digital signage market and is ideal for almost any business due to the low investment, low installation cost and almost anyone who can copy images from a digital camera and use a remote control for the television can configure an LCD digital poster.

Electronic advertising is sprouting in almost every location you go in to, I recently went into my local mechanics to collect my car for a service and there on the wall was a 26" digital poster, this was ideal not to big and not to small. The content on the display was a speed-ed up (time lapsed) video of a truck having its engine removed and then ads followed of the trucks the garage had for sale, I asked the mechanic if the digital advertising had helped with sales and he told me that his sales had jumped by 23% since he put it there.

What makes them popular is that they are ideal for the technophobe, there is nothing you can do wrong, you produce the content then store it on the memory card, insert the memory card into the built in media player, secure the locked compartment then plug the unit and using the remote control, access the in built menu.

From the inbuilt menu, you can control the scrolling text, make it bigger or smaller, increase the scroll speed or decrease it. You can control the position of the screen, so you can mount it vertical or landscape put the memory card in and switch the content to suit your position, without having to move the position of the LCD digital poster.

You can even use a calendar facility to set what day you wish the unit to operate on, and even to what time you want it to reboot and shut down, so no one has to worry about switching it off or on, in the future.

Digital Posters - Entry Level Digital Signage

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are few people who have not yet heard of digital signage. This digital out of home advertising (Dooh) is an incredibly fast growing method of raising brand awareness and is springing up all over the place. From shopping malls and retail parks to outdoor digital signage along roadsides and the high street; display screens used for advertising are almost everywhere.

And the amount of people that want to jump on the digital advertisnig bandwagon is increasing all the time; however, there are two things that are putting potential users off from this new media.

Firstly, as a new technology, it is very difficult to assess a return on investment (ROI) from a digital signage system. There is quite a substantial outlay in installing screens for advertising, not only do the screens themselves have to be purchased but also the protective LCD enclosure (to defend from impacts and vandalism) and any content delivery system too (not to mention the content if you feel you are not competent to produce your own).

Secondly, as a new technology it is also perceived as complicated and those people with little technical background find it too daunting a prospect to be worth the time and investment. However, implementing screens for signage doesn't have to be complicated and for those apprehensive about the ROI, a simple, cost effective and a great entry level method of digital advertising is available: - the digital poster.

Digital posters are an all-in-one digital signage solution. Inside the attractive and stylish LCD enclosure of the digital signage poster is the LCD screen (usually in portrait orientation) and media playing device. Simply attach the digital poster to the wall, insert a power supply and upload the content using a USB device and the digital poster is ready to go.

Digital posters are providing a first step on the digital advertising ladder and allowing those with little technological experience to begin making use of this exciting new advertising medium.

LCD Television in Outdoor Digital Signage

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Technology advancements in the flat panel television industry now dictate that we use LCD televisions in outdoor digital signage solutions, due to their cost effective nature.

Gone are the days that the CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) TV sets are in-stores to buy, due to the falling cost of the new flat panels coupled with the comparable smaller depths of the actual TV, making plasma and LCD TV's the perfect choice for indoor as well as outdoor digital signage.

There are two concerns when putting new flat panels outdoors, these are:

The screen must be readable even in direct sunlight otherwise customers will not see the ads on the display. Secondly the TV must offer some sort of waterproofing - protecting LCDs from the weather elements. Otherwise the display will just corrode in the damp environment.

Another sometimes overlooked issue is how to mount the LCD enclosure as the actual flat panel is mounted on an internal TV mounting frame, normally these enclosures come with some sort of bracket on the rear of the enclosure, but note there are some manufacturers of LCD enclosures that drill through the back of the enclosure to fit the bracket, this reduces the waterproofing of the unit.

One manufacturer in particular supplies a unique bracket that is theft resistant, this bolts to the rear of the enclosure and the fastenings are fully sealed so now fluid can enter the enclosure when in suit. The bolts used are special anti-theft bolts, so once in place you can only remove them with a grinder.

Protecting Digital Signage in Outdoor Locations

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Outdoor digital signage is a world apart from using screens and displays in indoor environments. Your average in store digital sign operates in a location not too dissimilar to those of the home entertainment environment that displays such as LCD or plasma were designed for.

Outdoor locations however, are not conducive to the operation of a sensitive an electronic device such as a TV so protection of any display that is to be used for outdoor digital signage is crucial.

The weather obviously plays a key role in outdoor environments so ensuring the device is protected from rainfall is essential. However, there is more to the protection of outdoor digital signage than just ensuring the display is waterproofed as there are a lot of other aspects of outdoor areas that have to be considered:

Temperature Control is another important aspect of outdoor displays. The temperature range that outdoor digital signage has to operate in can be at either end of the extremes from sub zero to baking heat.

Ensuring that either the cold or heat doesn't damage or disable the screen is also a consideration and is often left to the display of LCD enclosure to provide adequate cooling, heating and insulation.

General Ruggedness, Outdoor digital signage often has to cope with being left unattended or in unmanned locations, which means that any display operating such an area needs to be resistant to attempts of theft and vandalism.

Mild steel LCD enclosures with tamper proof locks and anti-shatter screens are a recommended solution but there are other methods of preventing vandalism or theft.

Image Clarity and retention One area of digital outdoor signage that often gets neglected is protection of the screen itself. Direct sunlight can often make digital outdoor signs difficult to view and furthermore, direct sunlight can also cause image retention and can create hotspots causing permanent burn marks.

Anti-glare glass is one method of ensuring that the screen is readable no matter how bright the sunlight is but to ensure adequate protection of the screen against burning then some method of screen cooling is required. This is often accomplished by an air curtain that blows cool air across the surface of the screen to transfer any heat away.

Digital Signage Getting Tough - LCD Enclosures

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Digital signage (DS) is a great way of advertising and raising awareness. Not only do TV screens provide a more dynamic and attractive advertising medium than traditional print media but with the attention that it can grab, it is also a cost effective method.

But there are times, and locations where the use of DS screens may be desirable but is just not practical. The problem is that a digital signage screen is the same sort of device that we use to watch television in our homes, and these flat panel displays are only designed to operate in similar conditions to our front rooms.

But many areas where digital signage would be advantageous are not suitable for using these LCD and plasma devices. One such area is outdoors where the potential audience is far larger than for any indoor signage campaign.

But outdoor locations are not that digital signage-friendly. Firstly, with outdoor digital signage you have the weather to contend with. Rainfall, snow, hail and a whole host of other elements can disable a display screen.

Secondly, screens left in outdoor locations are often vulnerable. Not only can they suffer accidental damage due to the rough and tough nature of the outside world but they are left exposed to vandals and attempts at theft.

Thirdly, not all outdoor locations are the same. Some areas may have mild temperatures but experience high levels of rainfall, whilst other areas may be dry but extremely hot, and of course there are locations where sub-zero temperatures are regularly reached.

LCD enclosures are a great solution for these temperamental conditions. Not only do they provide a weather proof barrier protecting the display screen from moisture and rain, but they also have other rugged and environmental aspects.

LCD enclosures often contain climatic systems such as heaters, cooling fans and even air conditioning so they can be used in almost any environment; they also use anti-glare and reflective glass systems to ensure perfect readability in sunlight.

But the biggest advantage of LCD enclosures is their general toughness. They are usually made from mild steel (or stainless) which provides a real ruggedness that prevents any damage to the enclosed device and when fitted with vandal proof anti-shatter screens the LCD monitor enclosure provides and impenetrable barrier that not only protects the enclosed LCD display but also ensures it is running in the optimum environment possible.
